01

Ingredients & sources

Medicinal ingredients per capsule of S-EQUOL PLUS:

IngredientAmountSource
S-equol10 mgS-Equol (Synthetic)
Genistein16.7 mg AIEGlycine max (soybean) seed

AIE means aglycone isoflavone equivalents.

S-equol is different from daidzein. Direct supplementation provides S-equol itself, without first requiring conversion of daidzein into the supplemented molecule in the gut. This does not establish identical individual responses or superior clinical results.

Genistein is a separate medicinal ingredient. The formula should not be described as soy-free.

This table lists medicinal ingredients. Consult the product label for the full ingredient list.

Evidence in context

Selected S-equol studies, not a systematic review. Study type, product relevance and quality or limitations are recorded separately. Ingredient evidence is not a DR.MORGAN finished-product clinical trial.

S-equol supplementation and hot flashes

Study type
Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial
Product relevance
Relevant ingredient evidence; different finished formulation
Limitations
The tested SE5-OH preparation differs from our synthetic S-equol plus Genistein formula. This is not a DR.MORGAN finished-product trial. Population, attrition and duration limit generalization.

Study type
Mechanistic / analytical; human pharmacokinetic component
Relevance to DR.MORGAN
Mechanistic relevance
Sample / population
Pharmacokinetic component: 3 healthy adults
Duration
Single-dose pharmacokinetics; in-vitro formation experiments
Finding
Human samples and cultured intestinal flora supported S-equol formation from daidzein.
Limitations
Very small pharmacokinetic sample. Not a trial of menopausal symptom relief or of DR.MORGAN S-EQUOL PLUS.
Quality assessment
Methods and sample context reviewed from abstract; full risk-of-bias appraisal not completed.

Mechanistic relevance
Sample / population
Samples from 7 equol producers and 6 nonproducers
Duration
5-day laboratory incubation
Finding
The experiments examined differences in bacterial conversion of daidzein to equol.

S-equol supplementation and hot flashes

Study type
Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial
Relevance to DR.MORGAN
Relevant ingredient evidence; different finished formulation
Sample / population
160 postmenopausal Japanese equol nonproducers randomized; 126 completed
Duration
12-week intervention
Finding
A natural S-equol preparation providing 10 mg/day showed a greater reduction in hot-flash frequency than placebo.
Limitations
The tested SE5-OH preparation differs from our synthetic S-equol plus Genistein formula. This is not a DR.MORGAN finished-product trial. Population, attrition and duration limit generalization.
Quality assessment
Primary methods, results and disclosures inspected; no formal overall risk-of-bias rating assigned.
Funding / conflicts
Otsuka supplied the preparation and funding; two authors reported consulting fees from Otsuka.
